I totally agree. I have a lot of theories as to why people do this but we’d be here all day if I were to talk about them.
I really want a fix-it where they both come to understand the validity in each other’s positions and they combine philosophies to create the perfect team: a strong, protective, assertive force for good, prepared for all hell to break loose, but still trying to change the world for the better. They could balance each other out and cover each other’s blind spots, rather than becoming enemies.

They would make a perfect team. Fighting each other when they have to, keeping the other in line always, and meeting right smack in the middle.
This exact thing and the comment proposal is something that’s always aggravated me. Because it’s TRUE. If Erik hadn’t reacted, the bombs would have blown all of them up. They shot to destroy. Erik was right about that. Charles was right in that they should have immediately forced truce and not retaliated to scare the humans. Compromise is key in a relationship.
